City of Lodi is warning residents to be on the lookout for callers posing as Lodi Electric employees.
According to Jeff Hood, city spokesman, several Lodi residents received telephone calls Thursday from someone claiming to be from the Lodi Electric Utility. The callers tell residents they need to have $100 to start service.
Residents told city officials the the number displayed on their caller ID is a city of Lodi number.
Hood said the call is a scam. Residents starting their utility service arrange payment only through the city’s Finance Division at 310 W. Elm St. They never arrange payment at their homes or businesses.
Anyone who receives a call should contact the Lodi Police Department at 209-333-6727.
