The San Joaquin Regional Transit District will receive $8.5 million from the Federal Transit Administration for its regional transportation center in Stockton.
The money will create 250 jobs in San Joaquin County, according to Rep. Jerry McNerney’s office. McNerney, D-Pleasanton, said in an email that he lobbied the FTA to get the grant money.
The transit district plans to use the money to build a new fuel and bus wash operation as part of a new administration and maintenance center to consolidate operations, McNerney said.
The center will eventually include a 91,000-square-foot maintenance area and a 36,000-square-foot operations building. The funding comes from the FTA’s Good Repair Bus and Bus Facilities Program.
