The Foothills K9 Association has collected $15,877 as of Monday to go toward replacing Galt's two police dogs. Bo suffered an injury earlier this month, forcing him into early retirement, while Yaro was retired after his partner Officer Kevin Tonn was killed in the line of duty in January.
Before his death, Tonn was already working with the Foothills K9 Association to replace an aging Bo. Currently, the police department does not having any working dogs.
Meanwhile, team registration for the Run for the Badge 5K in honor of Tonn is now available on the city's website, www.ci.galt.ca.us.
The family-friendly race is scheduled for 8 a.m. on July 4 at Veterans Soccer Field, 900 Caroline Ave., Galt. Those who register prior to June 6 are guaranteed a T-shirt.
