Although the project was approved more than a year ago, Walmart has only this month submitted landscape and site improvement plans for a Galt site. The documents were filed with the city of Galt on Dec. 12.

The Planning Department is in the process of conducting its review, and submittal of building plans is expected soon, according to City Manager Jason Behrmann.

The city council approved the Walmart site plan in November 2011 and anticipated construction would begin the following year.

Five years ago, Walmart proposed building a 133,000-square-foot store at the undeveloped corner of Twin Cities Road and Fermoy Way. The Galt City Council originally approved the project in April 2010.

However, its construction was met with opposition and ultimately litigation by a community group that filed a lawsuit a month after the council approved the original plan.

Under the settlement made last fall, Galt Citizens for Sensible Planning dismissed its lawsuit when the city agreed to outside noise monitoring twice during the first year of Walmart's operation.
