A squirrel crawling on an electrical wire caused a power outage at mid-day Monday in the Edgewood Road-Lebec Court area. The squirrel caused a short in the wiring, city spokesman Jeff Hood said.

The city of Lodi was notified of the power outage at 11:40 a.m., affecting 49 customers, Hood said. Power was restored at 12:51 p.m.

I was told yesterday that said squirrel is no longer with us. Yes, he/she was electrocuted.

Very insensitive for Mr. Farrow to do this story and not report on the squirrel's well being. Was it hurt? How bad? Was it a fatal frying or a simple singe? And who's at fault? The city of Lodi for not posting warning signs in squirrelese? or was the little guy intoxicated after eating too many holiday fermented nuts? So many questions remain.

The punny title must be a conspiracy.
