Three Galt elementary students recently won their respective school spelling bee contests, and could complete at the regional bee in March. Winners from that contest will go on to the 2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee, to be held next spring in Washington, D.C.

Fifth-grader Sudha Vasudevan from Marengo Ranch, third-grader Elian Villalobos from Valley Oaks and sixth-grader Lacey Ceremony from River Oaks were crowned their school’s champion and will next take a written exam in Sacramento. If they score high enough, they advance to an oral bee, the California Central Valley Spelling Bee, to be held March 7.

The event is open to the public and begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Scottish Rite Center, 6151 H St., Sacramento.
