A longtime Lodi doctor and humanitarian died Sunday after a short battle with a terminal blood disease.

But if you asked Dr. Walter E. Reiss, 78, about his health, he would probably shrug it off and ask about yours instead.

Lodi Memorial Hospital lost a family member in Dr. Reiss. Lodi lost a one-of-a- kind community member who loved to serve. He was generous, kind and funny. And in his quest for assistance to help those most in need - you couldn't say no to him.

Dr. Reiss will always be remembered with love.

Lodi Memorial Hospital was delighted and honored to name its free outreach clinic, in the San Joaquin Public Health building on Oak Street, in Dr. Reiss's honor. The Walter E. Reiss Outreach Clinic will always remind us of the one and only Dr. Reiss.

Thank you to Carol and his family for sharing him all these many years.
