Culinary students at Salvation Army’s Hope Harbor shelter will learn about the latest changes in the pork industry on Friday.

Steve Weaver of Weaver Farms in Elk Grove will give a talk called “The Power of Pork,” which will highlight how farmers have changed how they raise pigs to meet consumers’ demand for lean, nutritious and safe food.

“Farmers have been working continuously to change how they raise pigs for the better,” said Weaver in a press release. “They’ve been able to make great progress in animal health, food quality and protecting the environment using advancements in agricultural science and technology.”

Weaver will address the group at 9:30 a.m. at the shelter, 622 N. Sacramento St. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
