Police are still investigating the Saturday evening homicide of a Lodi resident on the 500 block of East Elm Street.

Pedro Meza, 35, died after being shot in the head near an apartment complex shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to police. No suspects have been arrested and authorities are still questioning potential witnesses and gathering evidence, said Lt. Steve Carillo of the Lodi Police Department.

"All we can say at this point is that it is under investigation, but I can't comment on specifics," he said.

Officers have not ruled out the shooting being gang-related but have said Meza was not a documented member of any street gang.

Meza was unemployed at the time of the shooting and has two daughters. Neither was living with him when he was murdered, authorities said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Lodi Area Crime Stoppers at 209-333-6771. For those wanting to offer donations or support to Meza's family, contact Laura at 209-339-9445.

Turn this over to Detective Doug Chaney, why he will have this case wrapped up in no time at all and still have time to gripe about way DUI checkpoints are conducted. Uh oh, I forgot, it occurred on the EAST SIDE.He would never rat his homies out.
