A woman who police say was using a cellphone struck a California Department of Transportation worker on Wednesday morning along northbound Highway 99, just south of Woodbridge Road, according to California Highway Patrol.
The worker was treated for minor non-life-threatening injuries at a Lodi-area hospital and released, said CHP Public Information Officer James Smith.
Around 11:30 a.m., the driver reportedly drifted toward the shoulder of the highway, where the Caltrans employee was working on a guardrail. The car’s side mirror clipped the worker, Smith said.
The driver failed to stop but was pulled over by CHP officers several miles away. While she was not arrested, CHP is still investigating the incident, Smith said.
The accident occurred days after Caltrans installed signs statewide to reinforce its Move Over campaign, intended to increase safety for highway workers and CHP officers.
