A Redding company has been chosen to install fiber optic cable connecting Galt City Hall with the Municipal Services Center to improve wireless data communication.
The $260,089 contract with Terry Hansen Electric is expected to be approved at Tuesday's regular Galt City Council meeting.
The communication upgrade was discussed in January 2011 when council members concurred an underground fiber optic line would be the best option.
The primary purpose of the project is to provide fiber optic connections for data transfer. Currently, the city relies on a single antenna.
Terry Hansen Electric was the project's low bidder. The company has installed simple fiber optic lines in Roseville and Modesto, according to its bid application.
Most of the funding will come from the wastewater treatment plant upgrade fund. At additional $70,000 will need to be transferred from the wastewater fund to pay the balance of the project.
The Galt City Council meets at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers at City Hall, 380 Civic Drive, Galt.
