Galt police have arrested two men on suspicion of attempted murder, after officers said they stabbed a man who they mistook for a rival gang member.
Andres Lopez, 20, and Vincent Soto, 19, two documented gang members from Galt, approached a man standing in his yard on the 100 block of Fumasi Drive in Galt around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Galt Police Lt. Brian Vizzusi.
Lopez and Soto accused the man of being a rival gang member, according to witnesses. Even though the victim vehemently denied the accusation, Lopez and Soto stabbed him anyway, Vizzusi said.
After the attack, witnesses heard a suspect say, “I think we have the wrong guy,” Vizzusi said. The victim isn’t a gang member, he said.
The victim was later admitted into a nearby hospital in critical condition and is still in the intensive care unit, Vizzusi said.
On Monday, witness statements led police to Lopez and Soto, who were arrested around 3:15 p.m. near C and 3rd streets in Galt. Both men are being held in Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and participating in a street gang.
