Galt, Lodi and San Joaquin County compiled with the State Controller’s office mandate to turn in the salaries, pensions and health care information for all employees.
The controller’s office compiled the information from cities and counties to post all in one location.
Because that information is available through a computer system, Human Resources Manager Dean Gualco said it most likely wouldn’t take more than a day to compile it.
The city has posted all the salaries for those making more than $100,000 since 2003, city spokesman Jeff Hood said. The city also has salary ranges for other positions posted online, but that doesn’t show any overtime, although most employees do not receive overtime, Gualco said.
“There are some that are not enamored with salary being posted, but they understand when they work for the public they have no privacy with their salary,” he said.
San Joaquin County Administrator Manuel Lopez said he didn’t have any problem with the state disclosing employee salaries.
“I’m fine with it,” Lopez said. “It’s probably just reaction to the (city of) Bell scandal. Everyone wants to show they’re on top of it.”
Lopez was referring to the small Los Angeles County city of Bell, where several city employees were arrested after receiving enormous salaries.
Lopez added that he expects many county employees to be concerned with having their wages and benefits published online, but that’s the reality of working for a public agency.
The city of Galt had all the information the controller’s office needed in their system, but it took about two days to get it in the format the state wanted, said Paula Islas, human resources administrator.
The city is working on their system so that at the end of each year, it will automatically update. Islas has not had any employees express concerns about their salary being posted on a statewide website.
“It’s been a couple years since that information has been posted in the newspaper, so we have had time to get used to it,” Islas said. “We appreciate transparency.”
