Two arrested on suspicion of early morning burglary

Updated

Two men were arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of breaking into El Camino Tire, 400 E. Lodi Ave., according to Lodi police.

Officers got a call at 3:14 a.m. that the men, Jose Reyna, 20, and Luis Avila, 19, were burglarizing the tire shop, police Sgt. Steve Maynard said. Reyna cut both his hands from breaking a window at the shop, Maynard said.

It was apparently the men’s second trip to the tire shop, Maynard said. They previously stole four tires and a set of rims before returning for more merchandise, he added.

Reyna and Avila ran from officers in different directions. Avila was captured by one officer, while a police dog chased Reyna, who was jumping fences trying to escape, police said. They were arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and resisting arrest.
