A Lodi sports memorabilia store is under investigation for the sale of counterfeit jerseys, according to the Sacramento Valley High Tech Task Force.

Last week, a search warrant allowed officers to seize several hundred baseball, basketball and football jerseys from Central Valley Sports on West Lodi Avenue.

Counterfeit experts from Southern California were brought in to confirm that the items were not authentic. The store also sells sports memorabilia, but those products were not seized, said Officer Juan Hildalgo.

"We don't have the experts to confirm the memorabilia," he said.

Store owner Mamood Khan said his items are authentic gear, but he lacked the correct licenses for some of the jerseys.

"They're not counterfeit. If that was the case, they would have filed charges when it happened. It was just a licensing problem," said Khan, who has owned the store for three years. "We're still open for business."

They do not stock any jerseys at this time, though Khan says that will change in the future.

The task force is currently examining the store's computers, which were taken under the warrant to search through purchase orders. That information will take a few months to process, said Hidalgo.

Once the task force is through with the evidence, they'll send the case to the San Joaquin County District Attorney.

The store is still open and running while charges are pending. No arrests have been made.

The Sacramento Valley High Tech Task Force focuses on technology-related crimes as well as the manufacturing and sale of counterfeit goods. They keep an eye on the sales of fake CDs, DVDs, sporting goods and other products from the Oregon border to Modesto.

The force is made up of specialized officers from sheriff and police departments across Northern California.
