The Lodi branch of Union Bank, located inside S-Mart Foods at 610 Kettleman Lane, has officially closed, leaving dozens of local customers with only an ATM to manage their banking.
"We are constantly evaluating the performance of our branches and we did make the decision to close the Lodi in-store location," said Jane Yedinack, a representative of the San Francisco-based bank. "We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers."
The two closest Union Bank locations are now in North Stockton and Galt, but Vickie Cantrell of Lodi says that's too far to go for seniors on fixed incomes like herself and her husband.
"We're both pulling out of that bank. We've had it. It shows total disrespect for customers to leave them high and dry," she said. Cantrell has banked at that branch for 14 years.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the ATM would remain. The original one was closed without notice, said Cantrell, and there were no signs directing customers to the new one until late Thursday afternoon.
Cantrell was upset at paying $5 in fees to withdraw money from another ATM before she realized the Union Bank machine was still open.
Yedinack did not comment on the ATM confusion, and reaffirmed that the bank will not reopen in that location.
