Lodi police are searching for a man who they say robbed another man at gunpoint Friday morning.

According to Lodi Police Sgt. Tim Fritz, at around 9:50 a.m., the suspect, armed with a handgun, took $170 from the victim near the intersection of Lodi Avenue and Cherokee Lane.

The suspect was described by witnesses as either a light-skinned black male or dark-skinned Hispanic male in his 40s with a short beard.

Less than an hour later, an officer spotted a man fitting that description walking with a Caucasian woman near the intersection of Elm and Washington streets. When the officer tried to stop the pair, both ran toward Railroad and Central avenues, Fritz said.

The officer lost sight of both suspects after they jumped into a residential yard. Officers set up a perimeter around the area and went house to house with their guns drawn looking for the duo, Fritz said, but neither suspect was found.

Anyone with information should contact the Lodi Police Department at 209-333-6727 or Lodi Crime Stoppers at 209-369-2746.
