At tonight's regular meeting, the Galt Planning Commission will discuss whether to add two additional members.
In December 2012, Vice Mayor Mike Singleton asked staff to prepare a report to once again consider placing an alternate member on the commission. One served on the commission until the council eliminated the position in 2011.
In March, the council ultimately approved introducing an ordinance that expand the board from five members to seven to guard against meeting cancellations based on lack of a quorum. But before adopting the change, Councilman Curt Caption requested commissioners weigh in on the issue.
The number of commissioners on a planning commission varies from city to city, and is typically set by each city's council. For example, there are seven members on the planning commission in Lodi, while Sacramento has 13 and Elk Grove has 5.
The Galt Planning Commission meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the city council chambers at City Hall, 380 Civic Drive, Galt.
