The Lodi Unified School District and Onsite Electronics Recycling are sponsoring a free electronics waste collection fundraising event on Saturday. Residents and businesses can recycle e-waste free of charge.

Funds raised by recycling electronic waste materials will be deposited into the district's general fund.

Electronic devices contain hazardous constituents, including highly toxic heavy metals like lead and mercury, which can threaten human health and the environment when improperly disposed, according to a press release. Recycling electronic waste recovers valuable materials from the circuit boards, metal wiring, leaded glass, and plastics and is required by law in California to keep toxic materials from contaminating the environment.

All materials are processed locally in Stockton.

TVs, computers, monitors, printers, radios, stereos, VCRs, cell phones and telephones are among the items that will be accepted.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the district's warehouse, 851 Guild Ave., Lodi. Enter off of Industrial Way.
