- How you can contribute
Anyone who wants to contribute furniture, clothes or other items to the Ruiz family may contact Joanna Ruiz at 209-663-9914 or Kathy Rathbun at 209-334-1728.
Ruiz and Rathbun have space to store supplies until the Ruizes move into a new apartment, which could be as early as this weekend.

- Do you have renter’s insurance?
According to the insurance industry, renters should be insured in case they lose their possessions to fire or another disaster.
A fire, flood or other disaster that damages a residence can cause you to lose furniture, clothing, computers, electronic equipment, books, sporting equipment, collectible items, jewelry and other items. The value can add up, according to www.rentersinsurance.net/california.html.
"It's very inexpensive," according to agent Philip Marcus from the Lodi AAA office.
The most basic renter's insurance policy at AAA is about $150 per year, or $12.50 per month, Marcus said. That covers not only your possessions, but also liability insurance in case your dog bites a guest or someone drowns in your swimming pool, he said.
AAA's $150-per-year policy for renters covers about $1,500 worth of the home's contents and $100,000 in personal liability coverage. Renters can increase their coverage, Marcus said.
"It's the replacement cost on their personal property based on the value the renter thinks they have," he added.
"We look at expenses before and expenses after (the disaster)," he added.
According to www.rentersinsurance.net/california.html, people should shop around and obtain quotes from several companies.

Joanna and Juan Ruiz are grateful to generous Lodi-area residents who say they want to donate furniture, clothing and cash, after the home the Ruizes rented in southwest Lodi was destroyed by fire.
"I appreciate everything people are doing," Joanna Ruiz said on Thursday morning.
