Newly elected Rep. Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove, voted on Wednesday for a bill to suspend the country's debt ceiling for three months. Included in the bill is a stipulation that if Congress does not approve an annual budget, members will have their salaries withheld.
"The short-term debt ceiling suspension bill that I voted for is not a perfect plan, and while I'd prefer to see a clean debt ceiling vote, this bill will bring more certainty to financial markets and maintain the full faith and credit of the United States government," Bera said in a news release.
