Galt schools set sights on keeping students in class

Efforts come as state Superintendent Torlakson declares September as Attendance Awareness Month

GALT — In the first full month of school, administrators in Galt have put into place incentive programs to bolster student attendance rates. They are also looking at identifying the symptoms of absenteeism and building up counseling support, especially before missing school becomes chronic.

“Interventions to reduce chronic absenteeism should be supportive and not punitive,” State Superintendent Tom Torlakson said in a press release declaring September as Attendance Awareness Month.
