Steven Duncan says he likes a variety of activities from riding a unicycle to going to concerts. He mostly likes pastimes that help him relax, such as music and the outdoors. With at least a 4.7 grade point average, this Galt High valedictorian could use some relaxation before he heads to college.
Duncan, 17, plans to attend Brigham Young University in the fall to study business and finance.
He was in the Key Club and the California Scholarship Federation. He ran long distance and played tennis in high school. In addition, he has been involved with the Boy Scouts and achieved his Eagle Scout ranking.
He has been a member of Troupe Cabana, a singing and dancing group in Lodi. He learned to ride the unicycle for Troupe Cabana.
He likes playing the piano, playing volleyball and tennis and going to concerts. He likes indie rock bands, mostly small ones he finds online.
"I like the outdoors," he said. "Life gets crazy. It's good to be able to relax."
In high school, Duncan liked making friends. He said he was shy when he started high school but has since changed.
"I don't mind being myself and talking to people I don't know," he said. "I became fun."
Duncan's role models are his parents, but especially his father.
"The way he lives is how I want to be," which includes being married with children, he said. "He's honest, hard-working and funny too."
He said the morals of Boy Scouts helped make him who he is. He lives by the Scout law and also the Gospel, as church is important to him.
