Elk Grove physician Ami Bera, a Democrat who lost to Dan Lungren for the 3rd Congressional District seat, has announced that he will run again in 2012.

Lungren, R-Gold River, whose district includes Galt, defeated Bera by a 51-43 percent margin last November.

“I am running again because the issues we care about are no less important today than they were last November,” Bera wrote on his website.

He said his focus will be to create good jobs and secure America’s place as the world’s economic leader, bring expertise and improve access to health care, support an education system that prepares future generations to compete in an innovation-driven and interconnected global economy, and ensure that the opportunity to achieve the American Dream is available to all who work hard, Bera said on his website.

Bera was not available for comment Wednesday afternoon.

In an e-mail to the News-Sentinel, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Tyler Houlton accused Bera of supporting former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “tax-and-spend agenda” and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which Houlton described as “a group with alleged ties to the terrorist organization Hamas.”
