Leesa Klotz has been recognized for her “extraordinary volunteerism” with a joint proclamation from both the city and the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District at the district’s regular school board meeting Wednesday.

Klotz led the community fundraising efforts to keep Galt elementary school libraries open during the 2012-13 school year, after the school board voted to close them due to a budget shortfall.

In the last year, her group held a rummage sale, ice cream social and a Mother’s Day performance, among other events.

The Re-Open Galt School Libraries fundraising dollars were used only to fund the library technicians for student library access to and checking out of materials.

All told, the fundraising group generated $67,581.47 while the library technicians costs were $65,990.92. The remaining $1,590.55 will go to the general library fund.
