Lodi police are warning residents to be on the lookout for a woman impersonating a volunteer for a nonprofit organization in order to solicit donations.

So far, three people have contacted the Pregnancy Resource Center of Lodi, stating that a brunette woman in her early to mid-20s with a slender build has been going door-to-door saying she represents the center, said Christa Pera, the center’s office manager and client services director.

In each case, the woman has arrived to the door carrying a baby bottle, asking people to fill it with cash and change. Pera said center holds a year-long baby bottle fundraiser where local churches collect donations in a bottle, but said that the center never conducts door-to-door solicitations.

The Pregnancy Resource Center of Lodi is a faith-based organization that helps and educates young men and woman in crisis and provides free pregnancy tests.

The three people who contacted the center said the incidents occurred at homes in Lodi’s Mokelumne Village neighborhood after dark. The three are regular donors to the center, but Pera is worried that the impersonator could victimize those unfamiliar with the center.

The center filed a report with the Lodi Police Department on Thursday.

Pera said that anyone with questions could contact the center at 209-368-7190.

“We apologize to anyone who’s been victimized by this woman, but (this is) not a fundraiser on our behalf,” she said.
