The following events are scheduled to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, 2001:
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and Emergency Preparedness Fair
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Where: Hutchins Street Square, 125 S. Hutchins St.
The city of Lodi and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would like to invite the community to assist in memorializing the 10 anniversary of September 11, 2001 by attending the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and Emergency Preparedness Fair being held at Hutchins Street Square, 125 S. Hutchins St., Lodi.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. with a silent gathering at the flag pole. At 9:11 a.m. bag-pipes will begin playing and the introduction of the Honor Guard, Lodi Fire and Police departments, California Army National Guard and Color Guard with the United States Flag will take place.
The ceremony will feature a remembrance reading of names of fallen local heroes since 9/11, a 21 gun solute conducted by Lodi Police Department Honor Guard, and a fire bell ringing 3-3-3 presented by the fire department representative.
Addresses by local dignitaries including Lodi City Manager Rad Bartlam, Mayor Bob Johnson and Council members will also be given.
The Emergency Preparedness Fair will follow the ceremony at 10 a.m. in Crete Hall. Topics of the fair will include children's fire safety, emergency water and food storage, important document storage, basic first aid kits, alternate methods of cooking, fire safety, and basic 72 hour Emergency Kit. Participants can also receive free glucose testing, hypertension screening, cholesterol testing and children's I.D. kits.
Remembering 9/11/01 Gospel Concert
When: 2 p.m. Saturday.
Where: World of Life Church, 5038 E. Washington St., Stockton.
The Word Life Church of Stockton will present a concert of Patriotic and Southern Gospel music at 2 p.m. Sept. 10 at 5038 E. Washington St., Stockton. Featured singers will include The Richland Trio and Brian Besser.
9/11 Gathering for Peace
When: 3 p.m. Sunday
Where: Cottage/Pisano Room at Hutchins Street Square, 125 S. Hutchins St.
An interfaith and inter-religious Gathering for Peace led by Mark Price and other clergy from a variety of Lodi area faith communities including Roman Catholic, Buddhist, Methodist, Muslim, Presbyterian Sikh, Jewish, Lutheran, Baptist, UCC and more will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Cottage/Pisano Room at Hutchins Street Square, 125 S. Hutchins St., Lodi.
Each of the presenters at the Gathering will offer a reading from their faith's scriptures and offer a prayer or meditation which will be observed by those of differing faiths. A reception will follow the hourlong presentation.
