A man who called 911 to report that his uncle was shot in a Herald driveway has been arrested for the man’s murder, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
Jerry King, 31, was taken into custody by sheriff’s detectives in connection with his uncle’s murder on Sunday in front of King’s residence in the 13000 block of Purvis Road, sheriff’s spokesman Jason Ramos said.
The identity of King’s 50-year-old uncle had not been released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as of mid-day Thursday.
A man believed to be King told deputies on Sunday that he was inside his home when he heard a gunshot at about 4:30 p.m., Ramos said. King went outside and saw his uncle’s body.
However, homicide detectives investigated the man’s death into the night and Monday. On Tuesday afternoon, a sheriff’s K9 unit located a firearm hidden in some brush and plants behind the residence, Ramos said.
Detectives believe that the firearm they found was used to shoot King’s uncle, Ramos said. They later learned that King and his uncle had a strained family relationship, Ramos said. That strain was the catalyst and motive for the shooting, he said.
