After more than four days of searching, police said they arrested a registered sex offender Monday after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at knifepoint in a Lodi hotel room on May 15.
John Ganoe, 44, of Lodi, is being held in Lodi jail on $450,000 bail on suspicion of rape, lewd acts with a minor, terrorist threats, threats with a weapon and other offenses.
According to Lodi Police Detective Hettie Schaeffer, Ganoe lured a 13-year-old acquaintance into a hotel room in the 800 block of South Cherokee Lane last Wednesday. Once the girl was inside the room, Schaeffer said, Ganoe sexually assaulted her at knifepoint throughout the night.
Lodi police, Stockton police and the U.S. Marshals Service’s Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force spent 41⁄2 days searching for Ganoe before finding him in Stockton near Harding and Wilson Way, Schaeffer said.
The investigation is still ongoing and more information may develop, Schaeffer said.
