A Lodi man was shot in what police suspect was a gang-related incident last week.
Joshua McCoy, 30, was walking on Cherokee Lane outside of Kmart at 3:15 p.m. on July 24 when police said he was approached by a juvenile on a bicycle. Words were exchanged, but officers are unclear on exactly what was said. Lt. Fernando Martinez said McCoy was uncooperative in explaining the conversation, but it was something gang-related.
The conversation quickly escalated and the suspect pulled out a small handgun and McCoy took off running, according to police. Between three and five shots were fired, and one struck McCoy in the back, Martinez said.
McCoy was taken to Lodi Memorial Hospital for treatment and was later released. The suspect fled on his bike before police arrived, officers reported.
No arrests have been made in the case, said Martinez.
