State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced that the California Department of Education will hold free book giveaways on Friday and Saturday in the Sacramento area to help reduce its inventory of older titles and out-of-date instructional materials.
The public is welcome to help themselves to copies of publications that can no longer be stored by the Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Materials Division or by CDE Press, which recently consolidated materials into a single, smaller facility to reduce costs.
The events will offer any remaining excess inventory of print publications to the general public, schools and individuals for nonprofit educational use at no charge. Items are not to be resold.
The giveaways will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at two locations: 401 N. Third St. in Sacramento; and 3740 Seaport Blvd., Suite 20, in West Sacramento.
