Residents Rick Walters, Dan Jimenez and John Slaughterback all said they want to make it clear that they do not oppose a senior development.

They oppose a senior development on a particular piece of property.

The main issue is the land's proximity to the wastewater treatment plant.

"If they develop out there, they've boxed us into a corner," Slaughterback said. "When there is future development, they might have to build another wastewater plant at another location."

After visiting about eight wastewater plants in the region, Walters said none of them have subdivisions right next to them. The ones that have houses that were grandfathered in have had troubles with lawsuits from residents upset over the smell, or in one case, a dead deer.

"Whether it is the smell, or any type of problem, they will sue the city of Galt. Right now, we don't have to worry about it," Walters said.

Because the development would be northwest of the city's boundaries, Walters said he is worried the development would be an "island."

Another problem Jimenez is worried about: Developers that have made promises to pay for infrastructure in the past have not come through.

"It's not just the wastewater," he said. "It's all the unknowns that come with it, the extra police and fire stations, or more traffic."

Jimenez said the developers have told the city the project would bring hundreds of jobs and millions in revenue.

"A developer or landowner can throw out any figures they want, but they don't have any substantial evidence that they can produce that," Jimenez said.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
