Police: Son is suspect in mother's stabbing

Updated

A man allegedly tried to kill his mother with a steak knife on Saturday, said Sgt. Eric Versteeg of the Lodi Police Department.

Police arrested Chad Elliott, 24, on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his mother, Pamela Swift, twice with a steak knife, Cpl. Dale Eubanks said.

Elliott was arrested shortly after the 1:30 p.m. incident in the 300 block of West Locust Street, Versteeg said.

Swift, 50, went to check on Elliott and take him shopping, Versteeg said. Officers found Swift at a neighbor's residence after she was stabbed, Eubanks said

Police do not know what triggered the incident, but Swift was stabbed twice in the chest with a steak knife, Versteeg said. She was taken to a south Sacramento-area hospital, where she spent Saturday afternoon in surgery. She was in stable condition Sunday afternoon, Eubanks said.
