As summer begins, Lodians will once again have their chance to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables while enjoying entertainment and perusing wares for sale by local vendors when the Downtown Lodi Farmers Market begins today.
The Farmers Market will feature more than 40 vendors selling fresh produce and specialty foods. There will be wine and beer gardens, where visitors can sip on a beverage of their choice while enjoying the sounds of acoustic music and smooth jazz.
A Farm to Fork stage will feature regular events throughout the summer, including pie contests, chef demonstrations, watermelon seed spitting contests, salsa contests and heirloom tomato tasting.
Other activities throughout the summer will include a Bermuda Shorts Night, a Carmen Miranda look-alike contest and a largest home-grown vegetable contest.
The Farmers Market will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday evening in Downtown Lodi, beginning today and running through Aug. 29. The center of the market will be located on Pine and School streets.
A ribbon-cutting will kick off the event tonight at 5 p.m. For more information, call 209-367-7840 or visit www.lodichamber.com.
