The Galt City Council on Tuesday is expected to approve more than $20 million in beginning costs to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant. However, a large portion of the expenses could be paid for with a $26 million revolving loan from the state. That request is also on the agenda Tuesday.
The city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Project is related to a new State Water Quality Control Board’s discharge permit. Significant upgrades to the city’s current plant are required to meet state mandates or face hefty fines of $3,000 per day, according to Public Works Director Steven Winkler.
