A female motorist died in a vehicle accident at the intersection of Hutchins and Vine streets Saturday morning. Officer Chris Kaufman, of the Lodi Police Department, said the woman's Mazda sedan was headed south on Hutchins Street when she struck a green Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck that was headed westbound on Vine Street. The sedan was pushed into the front yard of a home on the corner of Vine and Hutchins streets as a result of the collision.
"We speculate the male driver (in the pickup) had the green light," said Kaufman.
The accident took place at 10:24 a.m. this morning and the intersection was closed for several hours as workers removed debris and investigated the cause.
The male driver did not receive any serious injuries and authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The female driver was pronounced dead at Lodi Memorial Hospital shortly after the crash.
The identity of the woman, who officers said was elderly, has not been released pending notification of her family.
