In order for the Lodi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) department to get funding to cover crucial repair and maintenance costs, the department wants to put a one-eighth percent sales tax increase on the upcoming November ballot. But the Lodi City Council is concerned that the spending plan is not concrete enough for voters in order to carry the two-thirds vote needed to pass this increase.

At Tuesday’s Lodi City Council shirtsleeve meeting, the PRCS led a discussion on the plausibility of gaining the council’s approval to put the sales tax increase on a ballot. In order to support the ballot measure as a special measure that guarantees what the tax revenue would be used for, four-fifths of the council would have to vote in approval. As the meeting went on, it appeared that such support wasn’t quite there.
