Lodi police arrested three people during Saturday night’s DUI/driver’s license checkpoint in the 300 block of East Lodi Avenue, police reported.

One driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and one each for a firearm violation and public intoxication, according to police Lt. David Griffin. The checkpoint was conducted from 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

In addition to the three arrests, five drivers were cited for operating an unlicensed vehicle, and two more were cited on suspicion of driving with a suspended or revoked license. Three vehicles were towed away, Griffin said.

Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public, according to Griffin.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. People may reported suspected drunken drivers by calling 911.
