A stolen car caught fire with the suspected thief inside on Thursday evening.

When Lodi officers responded to Turner and Beckman roads around 6 p.m., they saw a white man running from a vehicle in flames, Lodi Police Sgt. Mike Oden said. Fire fighters extinguished the fire while officers searched for the man with no luck.

Police soon discovered that the 2004 Hyundai had been stolen earlier that night, Oden said.

Police don’t believe the thief tried to burn the car on purpose, Oden said.

The car’s owner told police the car had problems with overheating, and Oden said that’s likely what started the fire.

Yeah that sounded funny to me too when I read "white man." In our politically correct world of news, shouldn't they be calling him a caucasian male, or perhaps a "European-American" or something like that?

    A white man?
