A 12-year-old girl was transported to an area medical center after crossing into the path of an oncoming vehicle Thursday afternoon, said Officer Eric Versteeg of the Lodi Police Department.
The girl sustained a head injury that was not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Mills Avenue near Jerry Lane when the girl was attempting to cross the street to meet her mother.
The juvenile, a student at Erma B. Reese Elementary School, was leaving the campus after school when she walked between two parked cars and into stop-and-go traffic, Versteeg said.
A Chevrolet sedan traveling roughly 25 mph struck the girl, police said.
The girl was not in the crosswalk when the accident occurred and the driver is not believed to have been under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, police said.
