Two women, one from Lodi, killed in auto crash

A 70-year-old Lodi woman was one of two people killed late Friday night in a head-on collision on West Lane, just north of Eight Mile Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Lodi resident Heidi Nelson, 70, and Jane Labuni, a 56-year-old Stockton resident, died the scene of the accident, which took place at 11:05 p.m. Friday, the CHP reported.

Nelson was driving her 1986 Ford Crown Victoria north on West Lane when she lost control, crossed the concrete island into the left southbound lane, where she crashed into a 1990 Chevrolet Prizm driven by Rosemarie Taasin, 54, of Stockton, according to a CHP report.

Nelson and Labuni, a passenger in Taasin’s car, died at the scene, the report says. Taasin was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton and later flown to Stanford Medical Center with major injuries.

Drug and alcohol use are not believed to be a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
