Lodi City Council approves new homes
The intersection of Century Boulevard and Lower Sacramento Road in Lodi on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Century Boulevard will be extended westward as part of the Van Ruiten Ranch project to make room for 288 homes off Lower Sacramento Road.

Father Mark Price of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church recited the council invocation in honor of former News-Sentinel reporter Ross Farrow.
“We’re blessed to have known him and share our community life with him,” Price said.
During the council communications portion of the meeting, Councilman Alan Nakanishi also paid tribute to the former reporter.
“He did a good job,” Nakanishi said. “He was a great member of the community and I’m going to miss him greatly.”
Mayor Phil Katzakian adjourned the meeting in honor of Farrow, as well as Jennifer Katzakian.
Vice Mayor Larry Hansen was absent from the meeting.

The Lodi City Council voted 4-0 at its Wednesday meeting to approve a plan to build 288 homes on 74 acres between Lower Sacramento and Davis roads.
Lodi-based Bennett Homes, Inc. will build 145 low density homes, 55 medium density homes and 88 high density homes on vacant land owned by Jim Van Ruiten, to be named Van Ruiten Ranch.
