Congressman Jerry McNerney, D-Stockton, will hold a workshop to help veterans access the newly-created Veterans Retraining Assistance Program on Monday.
VRAP offers eligible, unemployed veterans up to 12 months of career retraining. Approximately 45,000 veterans will be included in this program, and the deadline to register for retraining assistance is Sept. 30.

01. , Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 that critics mourn will raise electricity rates in California by another 20 percent. Schwartzeneger signed it but the democrats introduced it and has resulted in California having one of the nation’s highest electricity rates
02. . For several years in a row, California has ranked dead last in the Chief Executive magazine’s poll about the business environment of states in the U.S. That is 100% the fault of democrats and is dramatically reducing tax revenue.
03. Democrats have created more taxes on business and population than any other state yet has more shortage of revenue even over other states that have had the housing bubble problem.
04. California democrats are pushing an expensive universal healthcare program that businesses are afraid of. Other states who are attracting California businesses that wish to avoid these expensive programs. This is hurting our economy.
05. Democrats are refusing to reform public employee pensions that are breaking the back of our economy. Everybody knows that the State pension systems are insolvent—CalPRS, UC, CalSTRS and the rest. Still Democrats act as if money to keep them afloat is not killing local government, schools and special districts

Mr Metzler…thanks much for your civil thoughtful post. However, I do strongly disagree with you. The Democratic Party has controlled all aspects of California’s policies, legislation and policies that effect what our tax dollars have been spent on and what they are obligated for in the future.. In addition, I think it is very incomplete to blame our problems mostly on the housing bubble. There are many policies the democrats support that add gas to the fire.
McNerney is a liberal democrat. He is part of the problem and not the solution.

oooops "boot" not "book"

Mark M: I watch McNebbish very closely. I have had 4 children in the military. One was stationed in Korea, One did 2 tours in Bagdad, One has had uncounted, undisclosed, special ops tours somewhere in north Africa, and one currently in the Persian Gulf. Yes McNeb's his son too is serving, i think in the airforce. that does not make him any less of a book licker and panderer in chief. I stand with my analysis.

Mr. Baumbach......
The reason "California has a revenue shortage" cannot be blamed on McNerney and Pelosi. The 2008 Housing bubble collapse was the primary cause of
our state's revenue shortage. Most of us remember what happened!!
So...saying that California's economic plight is ".....directly related to McNerney's choice to vote for failed policies....." does not help us honestly address our state's economic problems, as it entirely misses what we all remember happening in 2008.
Elminating health services for Veteran's and other hard-working citizens...is hardly a way to deal with our country's problems....at a timewhen so many people are hurting.

Mr Barrow stated...WOW a democrat voting with other democrats and supporting the former speaker of the house I'm shocked.
Me too... I agree with Eric. It is shocking that Mr McNerney would vote 97% of the time in lock step with Pelosi's failed policies. California has been dominated and controlled by liberal democrats for so long that it is clear to see that the results of California's plight economically is directly related to McNerney's choice to vote for failed policies and much higher taxes.
California businesses are leaving in record numbers as are the jobs we so much need. California taxes are higher than any other state yet we have a revenue shortage. McNerney is part of the California problem. We need a change of direction. Thank you Eric for supporting Gill as it is shocking that McNerney is blind to the problems he and Pelosi are responsible for.
We need private sector jobs. McNerney and the democrats have had 40 years to get it right. They have failed big time.

WOW a democrat voting with other democrats and supporting the former speaker of the house I'm shocked. Heard yesterday that the repubs voted unanumously to repeal Obamacare for the 31st time forget about the remarkable waste of time what concerns me is all that licking of Boehner's boots, grovelling, and sucking up to all things righty and voting with the repugnantcans. Boehner wingtips must be shiny clean by now. I mean 31 times in 18 months what a joke.

John Kindseth posted at 6:39 pm...However, it was a freebie given to him in exchange for him carrying Nancy Pelosi's water... no one would ever kick veterans in the teeth. So his pandering is disengenous
John, I have always opposed McNerney simply because of his Pelosi rubber stamp activity. You bring up an interesting point. It does appear that he uses military issues as political cover for all the very liberal legislation he votes for considering this area is more conservative.
Mark Metzler posted at 11:49 pm on Wed, Jul 11, 2012.
I think it is very sad for anyone to challenge Jerry McNerney's integrity on veteran's issues. So, when Mr.Kindseth refers to the Congressman's support for veterans benefits as "disengenous pandering" I wonder what, specifically, he is referring to?
Considering the boost to the economy, that these veteran's programs bring this hard-hit region..... if you were to talk to a soldier, today, returning from battletorn Iraq...... I am wondering exactly which programs you would tell him you think should be cut?
And, considering that Congressman McNerney has been re-elected...already, for two terms....representing citizens of Lodi, and surrounding areas...it is hardly meaningful to call him a "carpetbagger"....because he relocated within the district that he has already diligently represented.
John Kindseth posted at 6:39 pm on Wed, Jul 11, 2012.
McNebbish has done a lot for Veterans. That is good.
However, it was a freebie given to him in exchange for him carrying Nancy Pelousys water, licking her boots, grovelling, and sucking up to all things leftist and voting with the demonrats around 98% of the time. No one would ever kick veterans in the teeth. So his pandering is disengenous. It is time to BART this carpetbagger back home to his energy office that no one is able to find.

Sorry, the parantheses part should read "provided their houses are worth less than what the individuals paid for them"
Michael Thompson posted at 4:13 pm on Wed, Jul 11, 2012.
Jake,
I believe the fall in the Stockton economy is more due to the housing bust than agriculture. If you could look at a measure that is put forth in the Housethat would allow people who are diligent in paying their mortgage to refinance (provided their houses are worth less than what they are worth), you would see Valley families with more disposable income that they would be able to spend in local businesses.
Darrell Baumbach posted at 1:10 pm on Wed, Jul 11, 2012.
Mr Hanebutt makes a great point. In addition, he spends his time voting against bills that will help our economy. Just today, he voted against the bill to repeal Obamacare which is causing employers uncertainty and preventing them from hiring employees.
Mr McNerney, please focus on creating jobs instead of wrapping yourself in an American flag to shield you from your Nancy Pelosi rubber stamping.
Jake Hanebutt posted at 11:29 am on Wed, Jul 11, 2012.
I certainly have nothing against veterans. They served our country and deserve the respect of everyone.
That said, McNerney seems to spend just a little bit too much time on them. I know that his son served in the Air Force and it inspired him to run for office, but he is there to represent his constituents. California has the 3rd lowest rate of military service out of all the states, yet McNerney seems to dedicate all of his time to veteran issues.
If he spent a little bit more time on agriculture and a little bit less time on veterans, then maybe Stockton wouldn't be in quite as bad of shape as it is right now.
