A Galt police officer may have broken his finger as he struggled with a man who ran away after a traffic stop Friday night, police said.

An officer stopped a car that had a headlight out on West Stockton Boulevard at Spring Street at about 8 p.m., according to police Lt. Jim Uptegrove. The driver ran away and had not been found as of Monday morning, Uptegrove said.

While trying to grab the driver as he ran away, the officer may have broken the ring finger of his left hand, Uptegrove said.

Four passengers were also in the car, and three of them were arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded handgun, possession of the gun while being a documented gang member and conspiracy, Uptegrove said.

The three people arrested, all from Modesto, are Victor Cardenas, 20, Armando Patino, 22, and Arturo Martinez, 18.

Patino was also arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana, and Cardenas was arrested on suspicion of possessing suspected methamphetamine, police said.

This police officer is extremely fortunate that all he suffered was a broken finger, with the inhabitants of this vehicle. Our law enforcement officials risk their lives every day for our safety..

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
