On Tuesday, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors
also:
Approved the Thornton Community Improvement Study, which calls
for either one or two roundabouts, sidewalks and trees in the
business area — Thornton Road between Walnut Grove and Mokelumne
Avenue. There isn’t any county money available to make the
improvements outlined in the plan, County Administrator Manuel

Awarded a $205,628 contract to construct a radio communication
tower northeast of Liberty and Dustin roads. The money will come
from a Homeland Security grant.
Awarded a $425,110 contract to Knife River Construction to
resurface Woodbridge Road between Highway 99 and Lower Sacramento
Road. The board added a contingency amount of $42,890 to cover cost
overruns.

San Joaquin County officials question finances for expanding jail

The state will finance a majority of San Joaquin County’s $115
million county jail expansion planned in French Camp, but county
officials are wondering how they can afford to staff and maintain
the jail once it’s built.
“The elephant in the room is how to operate and staff it,”
county Supervisor Larry Ruhstaller said at Tuesday’s Board of
Supervisors meeting. “Where do we find the money?”
