Officials released additional information on the driver who led Galt police on a high-speed chase Tuesday afternoon and flipped his car, causing injuries to himself and the passenger.

Police attempted to pull over the 18-year-old male driver at Elm Street and Highway 99 in Galt because the vehicle was linked to property crimes, Galt Lt. Brian Vizzusi said.

The driver, who is from Galt, fled from the police with a passenger in the car, a 20-year-old man also from Galt, according to California Highway Patrol. The driver led officers on a chase of about 4 miles that ended on the Highway 99 frontage road at Acampo and Peltier roads, Vizzusi said.

The driver of a 1998 Chrysler Sebring attempted to pass on the center divide and lost control, according to California Highway Patrol. The vehicle traveled across the southbound lanes of the frontage road onto the west shoulder, where the car collided with a perimeter fence and then a telephone pole.

The driver was transported to Lodi Memorial Hospital with major head trauma, and the passenger was taken to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento with major internal damage and head trauma.
