- South County Services at a glance
The organization was founded in 1976 as the Galt Community Concilio, but was renamed about 10 years ago to reflect its broad geographical and demographic reach.
Its goal, according to its website, is to promote health, well-being and economic self-sufficiency for the south Sacramento County cities of Galt and Elk Grove, as well as South Sacramento and the River Delta areas of Walnut Grove, Isleton, Courtland, Hood and Locke.
It offers programs, support services and resources for individuals, families and seniors. There are only four employees, so much of the work is done by volunteers.

South County Services can help more area residents struggling to pay rent and utilities, thanks to a monetary boost from the Elk Grove City Council.
Late last month, council members in Elk Grove approved increasing grant funding to Galt-based South County Services by nearly $5,000. The organization assists residents who live in Galt, Elk Grove and other south Sacramento County communities who have fallen on hard times and need help paying utility and housing bills. It also provides support through food banks, transportation and lowto no-cost health care.
