The future looks bright for Galt elementary school district families. Beginning Monday, every Galt Joint Union Elementary School District school library site will be open allowing students to check out school library books and soon use or check-out computer tablets for online learning resources.
The new so-called Bright Future Learning Center will remain open during the school year. This comes following a year-long fundraising effort by community members to keep the school libraries open after the school board shuttered them due to budget cuts.
The Bright Future Learning Centers are funded through a Race to the Top federal grant. GJUESD is one of 16 districts in the United States selected to transform educational practices.
It defines a blended learning opportunity as the personalized combination of face-to-face instruction, on-line learning and project-based service learning. This student-centered learning can take place in the classroom, Bright Future Learning Center, outdoors, home and community settings, Superintendent Karen Schauer said.
As a result, every student will have a personalized learning plan that will be the student-centered pathway for blending learning opportunities for every student based upon strengths, interests and needs.
As part of that, the Bright Future Learning Centers will transform over time to support personalized learning interests and needs of our students beyond books, according to Schauer.
To begin, the centers are hosting Summer Survivor Activities with an international theme. Each elementary school represents a different country from China to Mexico.
The summer reading incentive program is a fun way to start the year-round connection to the district’s Bright Future Learning Centers, Schauer said.
“Learning takes place anytime and anywhere — year-round,” she added.
“The Race To The Top investment that includes funding to transform our school libraries into community-based learning centers will help fuel continuous learning for learners of all ages in Galt.”
Summer hours are 8 a.m. 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for lunch. For additional information, contact Jennifer Collier, GJUESD extended learning supervisor at firstname.lastname@example.org or 744-4545.
