A man who led officers on a foot chase and a 19-year-old woman were arrested Thursday night after police said they caught them shoplifting from Walmart.

At approximately 7 p.m., Lodi police officers responded to Walmart to investigate a shoplift in progress. When officers arrived at the store, they also found a stolen vehicle that was tied to several other recent thefts in the Lodi area.

Officers waited and watched until the suspected thieves came out to the parking lot and started to get in the vehicle. Jasmine Aguilar, 19, surrendered to officers immediately. However, Billy Travis, 35, took off on foot through the parking lot.

Police gave chase, and soon snagged Travis after he got tangled up with a shopping cart.

Both were taken to the Lodi jail for booking. Travis was charged with burglary, vehicle theft and obstructing a police officer, among other charges. Aguilar was charged with burglary and vehicle theft, among other charges.

Travis and Aguilar were also found to be in possession of methamphetamines, police said.
