Four Lodi High School seniors — Matthew Adams, Addison Howe, Nicholas Hudson and Miranda O’Mahony — are among 16,000 nationwide to be recognized as “Commended Students” in the 2014 National Merit Program for their PSAT scores.

Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2012 PSAT.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2012 PSAT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

NMSC, a nonprofit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 440 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
